It is hard to believe that we still regularly encounter the ancient Greek gods of Mt. Olympus and their fantastic tales of adventure, conspiracy, deceit and blunders in our lives today. Look around and you will be surprised how prevalent they are in commerce, literature, art and even religion. Dionysus (Bacchus to the Romans) is one of the gods that influenced the development of Western civilization.

 

While Dionysus is best known as the god of wine, and for the dramatic extremes of his dual personalities, did you know he was also at the center of the belief in the immortality of the soul? Like Jesus, he suffered, died and was resurrected, and was known for the salvation of the dead.
